Drug Abuse has always been a matter of concern in our society and no one has been able to escape this evil not even the biggest of celebrities. June 26 is International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking – and to mark this occasion, we bring to you 8 famous people who had died of drug overdose over the years. It will act as a reminder to you that there is no escape plan once you enter this horrid world of disturbances.
1. Heath Ledger:
We all know “The Joker”. He will always be remembered for the potraying the role of Joker in The Dark Knight which eventually cost him his life. he actor died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine.
2. Marilyn Monroe:
Who deosn’t know this beauty? Despite living a short life, her life was full of controversies.Her death couldn’t be spared of that either. The official cause of death was probable suicide by an overdose of barbiturates, but the conspiracies range from JFK being involved to the probable complicity of the Mafia!
The Hollywood Heartthrob and the king of Rock and Roll died of cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heartbeats) and it was believed that it was caused by an overdose of prescription drugs including codeine, valium, morphine, and Demerol.
4. Jim Morrison:
This famous Singer has also been a victim of drug abuse which eventually caused him his life. There was never an official autopsy done on Morrison’s body, but by the accounts of his companion Pamela Courson and his friend Alain Ronay, it is evident that Morrison died of a heroin overdose in Paris on July 3, 1971.
5. Michael Jackson:
The death of Michael Jackson was one of the most shocking and tragic death of them all after he lived his life full of controversies.On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication after suffering cardiac arrest at his home on North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
6. Whitney Houston:
In 2012, the World lost another famed diva due to Drug Overdose. Whitney Houston, 48 was found unconscious and submerged in the bathtub of her suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where she was getting ready for a pre-Grammy party. Attempts to revive her failed and although the coroner ruled the death accidental, cocaine and other drugs were found in Whitney’s system.
7.Anna Nicole Smith:
Anna Nicole Smith died at 39 from a lethal combination of the sedative chloral hydrate and various benzodiazepines including Valium on Feb. 8, 2007, in her hotel room in Hollywood.
8. Amy Winehouse:
The famous English singer and songwriter known for her deep vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, jazz and reggae died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011 at age 27.
