We teach girls to shrink themselves to make themselves small. We say to girls they can have ambition but not too much.
We teach girls you should aim to be successful but not too successful.
We say to girls you can go out but not at night.
You can leave home but only for work.
You can rest but only for a man.
It’s not about two young scholars from Gurugram who were harassed and molested in front of men.
It’s not about Nirbhaya and more which are left forgotten.
It’s about every girl who is asked to marry a guy she has never known just because she was once a victim of sexual harassment and no other guy would want to marry her. It’s about every girl who is asked to work at other homes just because her studies would cost too much and it will be useless in future.
It’s about every girl who is killed even before she could take a step in this world. The thinking has to be changed.
What can be done?
People will not know this until they are told so. It is hard and it is going to take a long time but trust me, it’s going to be worth it. Educate people. Talk to people.
Tell them what women can do.
Tell them about the world with equal rights. Tell them that it’s going to be beautiful. Because women are not begging for safety they are asking for rights not only for gender but for public spaces, for citizens. Women are not demanding anything rather they are asking for what they deserve. Why don’t we teach everyone about feminism which is all about equality for everyone and not just
Tell them that it’s going to be beautiful. Because women are not begging for safety they are asking for rights not only for gender but for public spaces, for citizens. Women are not demanding anything rather they are asking for what they deserve.
Because it’s not just about women or even men. It’s about every human living on the planet Earth. We have been a product of billions of years of evolution, the least we can do is act like it. A lot has changed since the dawn of humanity and society, and we definitely have progressed a lot in terms of human rights and how we treat people for a beautiful society.
It’s okay to realize the change would be gradual but we really need to take some important steps for gender equality and it always starts with education. You can do your bit by educating the people you know, family, friends. Let them realize how things need to be changed and how can they be a part of it. But make sure, we do it with love. To create a beautiful society where everyone is respected irrespective of gender, caste, age or occupation, love provides all the answer. Let’s embrace it and let’s bring the change we want to see.
