It’s pretty safe to say drugs are not something to be taken lightly, but some researchers claim, LSD could be effective if used in the right way, to treat depression and addiction.
In fact, the song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by The Beatles was inspired by various LSD trips, and as McCartney stated, the drug illuminated their music-making.
It’s like looking with eyes shut!
The researchers from Imperial College London say the brain responds as though participants are “seeing with their eyes shut”.
Moreover, it is not just the visual cortex that’s lighting up on scans; many additional brain areas get activated by LSD which is exactly why LSD-users experience such vivid hallucinations.
It also triggers an altered state of consciousness that is comparable to a religious or spiritual “epiphany”, which seems to be associated with improvements in well-being even after the drug has left the body.
Researchers also suggest LSD could be effective as a therapeutic medicine in treating psychiatric disorders. LSD appears to bring us back to a state of mind that is quite similar to that of an infant: careless, time-free, hyper-emotional and super imaginative.
